Mountain Has It’s Own Thermostat

In the heat wave, we entered the mountains, thinking maybe we made a mistake to pick such a hot day. But the deeper we go, the cooler it gets. As if it the mountain controls it’s own thermostat, isolated from outside world, I wonder if the sun ever penetrates through. In the deep cool air, we slowed down, a little squirrel enjoying her food next to us on a big boulder covered by moss, as if we don’t exist. Her trust made me stop, she is such a delicate little thing, smaller, maybe a baby, maybe they are just smaller here in the mountains.

After awhile, we continued our hike, the breeze from the deep canyon carrying something ancient, cooling off any anxiety from the outside world.

We made the right choice coming here today.
