Walking in the mountains I saw my first tarantula this year, summer is over. It’s like a symbol for the changing season. Tarantulas mate in early fall, so they will come out more this time of the year. This one was staying still, like still in the shock of summer.
It was a bit of a shock of seeing him this early in season. Then I realized he might think the same thing about me. In their mating season they travel more, so their scenery changes too. I might be the first one he sees. We just each crossed the road, and moved on.

As I walking further down the trail, I saw some movement in the bush, first I thought it was deer, then realized its more fury and muscular in the legs, and shorter than deer. Bobcat! As I stopped, so did she, but not the little one, there’s a baby kitten ran across as the mother stood still on guard. I snapped a picture when mother bobcat already turned around, then before I realized it another baby shot across in front of me! So I know it’s a mother with two babies on their evening outing.
What a productive hike in the dusk! I felt so blessed to share the walk with them. In an early fall evening, we completed each other’s scenery.
