The Snow Moon Is Coming

The Snow Moon is coming, today is the last day of January. Life marks its calendar. On our way out to see the birds, we saw a pair of coyotes running across the road ahead of us in bright daylight, in the marsh area. The Ross Geese are back, singing their winter carol. Something about their musical yi-yaw sound, soothing and evocative, noisy but calming, it’s the rhythm of winter, as they are only here for the winter.

We were rewarded with a gorgeous sunset, fog disappears just in time. The sun glorious like an over-ripe yoke, spilling over into water, immersing the entire landscape into a glowing canvas; the bold tree branches fit in perfectly, adding the raw touch of winter. Water fowl randomly glide into the marsh, that’s the animation of the painting. With the rhythmic sound of thousands of Ross Geese, ebbing and flowing, it reminds me life is on-going no matter what. The pre-Snow Moon is hanging over the tall trees, waiting for her turn to shine. A long term resident owl flies in and out, before settling down for the night.

Standing by the tree, I’m trying to stand back, taking in the vast scale of the entire piece, yet it all fits perfectly in this moment of stillness; all the passion wrapped in a calm frame, and I’m part of it.
