Life Calendar

A friend of mine mentioned on his blog, “The Apollo 9 mission launched 56 years ago today — on 3 March 1969” (Residentialcruising.com). I was shocked by his memory and accuracy on dates. That reminds me that another friend of mine, often notes things like “today is anniversary of D Day”, or other European battles even hundreds of years ago. In addition to their sharp mind and gifted memory, I realized those dates are meaningful to them, that’s why they know those dates by heart.

I ask myself: what dates are important to me other than birthdays? Interestingly enough: The days I was hurt are the ones remembered. So those life events that make painful marks in my life certainly are unforgettable. From those scars, I grow around. They mark my life, they form me and direct me in life, lessons learned after tests from life. I started to realize at the end when we flash back through our life, those scar moments and probably some merry moments as well are the ones will show up.

Life is made up of days, we give priority to which of them matters. And those priorities shape us.

“Days on Earth” is a dance from Doris Humphrey, a modern dance pioneer who was the artistic director of José Limón’s dance company. The name also evokes that by living through life, life is also living through us, like river flowing by, and we choose what stays what goes. This is our own calendar we have to create, and live by it for the rest of our life.

What’s on your calendar?
