A Moment Like This

“In every walk with nature, one receives far more than he seeks.” John Muir.

On our late afternoon outing, after the park had quieted down, rounding a corner of the road there were a pair of fawns side by side on the road, staring at us. Their spots still so distinctive, and obviously they are too young to know how to react towards vehicles. At first one was behind the other peeking at us, all we can see is an extra ear, then he’s getting brave enough to step forward, making a perfect pair of twins, echoing each other. A frozen moment of us just watching the other, until we slowly started drifting the car forward until eventually they got off the road, disappearing down the mountain slope.

How sweet we encountered each other in such a corner of a beautiful spring afternoon, a moment like this softens your heart.
